I have just returned from one of the best weekends of my life! At times, life can get extremely stressful, especially if you have a full-time job and 3 hyper-active children. We needed some alone time – with my husband, Ian’s 35th birthday approaching, we decided to live it up a little and go straight to Sin City.
Location, Location, Location!
We couldn’t have chosen a better place to celebrate Ian’s birthday. It was the first visit for both of us, and the appeal of Las Vegas is not exaggerated in any way. The feeling you get while standing amongst the crowd at the spectacularly lit Strip is simply indescribable! The superb lighting transforms the place completely from being an ordinary town square and gives it an enigmatic aura. It was great not to worry about anything and just enjoy the company of each other for once in a blue moon!
What a ride!
And what’s the best way to get around Las Vegas? In luxury of course! I was not too hung up on the model – after all it is a rental car and we would have to give it back, but thanks to Ian’s impressive skills of persuasion (and my weakness!) we decided to really splurge, and go for a bit of luxury for our holiday wheels – a Jaguar XE. I’m not really a car person and neither is Ian, but I have to say, despite being a bit apprehensive about driving such a big car (in comparison to my little hatchback anyway), I ended up loving the ‘Jag’ as I am told people in the know call them!
Being adventurous and satisfying the palate
How can you be at Las Vegas and not indulge in a bit of gaming? Sin City is renowned for its casinos with a wide array of games like dominos, slots, roulette, Black Jack, poker, and many more. I had a bit of luck at the slot machines, but it was clear that Lady Luck was actually on my husband’s side – as he emerged with a huge pile of chips after several rounds of Black Jack! We had a few games of roulette and poker as well just to feel like we were in a movie! And to be honest it was the ambience and crowd cheering on that made the experience so exciting, rather than the chance of actually winning any money. We didn’t understand the rules so it was just as well we didn’t care!
We celebrated by dining at the Wicked Spoon at The Cosmopolitan – the Asian cuisine here is simply out of the world. We also tried the buffet at the Bellagio and ate at one of the many restaurants lining the Strip on subsequent days. The food here is excellent, and you are in for some mouth-watering culinary delights. With celebrity chefs like Wolfgang Puck and Emeril Lagasse setting up shop here, it is evident that Vegas stands out in this category too.
I would heartily recommend a trip to Vegas to anyone who likes a bit of glitz, glamour and luxury, but my one tip is plan to spend more than you think – and then double it! Even if you don’t intend to actually spend much time in the casinos – be warned – everything is pricey in Sin City!
